My name is Akiko.
I am an experienced Japanese and Mandarin Chinese language teacher originally from Tokyo.
I will be delighted to assist ☺
I am a Japanese national but have also had the opportunity to study Mandarin Chinese for many years in Taiwan.
I believe that learning a new language is such an exciting experience because it opens a new door for you to make local friends and really enter the context of another culture, and finally realize how large your world has expanded!
I have experience in teaching all types of Japanese and Mandarin Chinese lessons which includes but not limited to Conversational Japanese, General Japanese, Academic Japanese and JLPT preparation as well as Conversational Mandarin Chinese, General Mandarin Chinese and HSK preparation to learners from a variety of age groups, professions, current targeted language abilities, nationalities and their study goals.
For instance, are you already well versed with the language and have no one to practice it with? If so, I could be your conversational partner. Are you starting from scratch? If so, I will be more than happy to guide and help build a study routine ☺
My lessons in person can take place at our private classrooms in Shinnyurigaoka (5 minutes' walk from South Gate) or in Shinnjyuku (2 minutes' walk from JR Shinnjyuku South Gate) as well as at the locations of your choice in Kanagawa, Tokyo and Saitama.
I am a full time teacher
(08:00 - 22:00 from Monday to Sunday)
(Please book well in advance via email with my colleague, Masahiko Kitaya. When you contact him, please kindly provide him with your email address for further email correspondences with us.)
Lessons will be conducted either in Japanese, Mandarin Chinese, English or mix.
My teaching style is empathetic and congenial but professional at the same time.
Lessons will be structured according to your needs and wishes. A 60-minute lesson typically consists of a grammar lesson, speaking and listening practices and new vocabularies, idioms and expressions are introduced throughout the lesson.
A sample 60-minute lesson structure:
0 - 20 minutes Catch-up, Welcome general questions and Check the homework
20 - 50 minutes Review the previous lesson and Work on new topics
50 - 60 minutes Welcome questions again
During the initial lesson, we also discuss what approach to take in order to achieve your personal goal. I use a proper textbook, structured and/or free conversation, drills, etc. Please feel free to let me know your ideas which you think would help you the most to become more fluent and literate in Japanese and Chinese.
